Cristiano Ronaldo reveals whether he could play alongside his son like basketball legend LeBron James

Cristiano Ronaldo has responded to a suggestion he could one day play alongside his son Cristiano Jr in a professional match.

The football legend, 39, was posed the question during an interview on his YouTube channel ‘UR Cristiano’ with Mr Beast.

Ronaldo had claimed his interview would ‘break the internet’, with Mr Beast currently the most popular creator on the platform with 137 million subscribers.

MrBeast, real name James Donaldson, posed the suggestion of Ronaldo and Cristiano Jr featuring together in a match.

He cited the example of basketball legend Lebron James, who is also 39, playing for the LA Lakers with his son Bronny, 20.    

Mr Beast said: ‘It’s crazy how LeBron is not playing with his son, are you making to make that happen in the football world?’

‘Maybe, I’ll see. He is fourteen now,’ Ronaldo responded.

Mr Beast suggested: ‘Maybe get him to play when he’s 17, so you’d have to play for three more years.’

‘Let’s see, let’s see how my legs are doing, we’ll see,’ Ronaldo added.

Cristiano Jr has shown signs of possessing his father’s talent, with a series of clips earlier this year showing off the teenager’s skills.

He was seen scoring a curling free kick into the top corner in January when training with his father.

Cristiano Jr then scored a headed goal for Al Nassr’s academy team having leapt for the ball in a style reminiscent of Ronaldo himself.

The goal was shared by Al-Nassr with the caption ‘Like father, like son.’

The teenager has also turned out for Real Madrid, Juventus and Manchester United, following in his father’s footsteps. 

He joined Al-Nassr’s academy following his father’s lucrative move to the Saudi Pro League side at the start of 2023.

In September, Ronaldo had dedicated a goal to his son as he watched in the stands, holding up three fingers.

It was reported that the gesture came after his son scored two goals earlier in the day for Al-Nassr’s youth side – meaning they netted a hat-trick together.

Ronaldo, a five-time Ballon d’Or winner, has maintained that he has no plans to force Cristiano Jr into continuing his legacy.

‘Right in this moment, Cristiano wants to be a football player but I don’t make big pressure, I make a little,’ Ronaldo told his former Man United team-mate Rio Ferdinand in September.

‘He’s 14 years old, he has pressure already to be the son of Cristiano [senior]. Let him do his own mistakes, but I hope that in the future he can be a professional player.

‘If he doesn’t become a player, maybe another job, but I will always support him. We cannot put pressure on our sons because we are famous.’

The Portuguese legend had admitted earlier this month that retirement from the game might not be too far away.

‘I just want to enjoy [myself],’ Ronaldo said. ‘Plan for retirement? If it has to happen, in one or two years… I don’t know. I’m turning 40 soon.

‘I really want to enjoy, as long as I feel motivated I keep going. The day I don’t feel motivated, I will retire.’
