Crystal Palace 0-2 Bournemouth: Marcos Senesi and Kieffer Moore score as in-form Cherries make it three wins from four to go nine points clear of the relegation zone

This is fast turning into a winter of discontent for Crystal Palace and Roy Hodgson.

Frustrations began to simmer in the stands from the moment Bournemouth’s Marcos Senesi headed the visitors in front on 25 minutes.

And after substitute Kieffer Moore made it two in stoppage time on a comfortable night for the visitors, frustrations had well and truly boiled over into anger.

In fact, the only thing that punctuated the fierce boos that echoed around Selhurst Park at full-time was the projectile thrown by a home supporter in Hodgson’s direction as he headed down the tunnel.

‘The fact is the fans have been spoilt here in recent times,’ said Hodgson, whose side have won just once at home this season. ‘They’re used to seeing us do very well at home and get good results and this year we’ve not been able to do that.

‘What do you say to them (the fans)? Well, if they really are true supporters, they’ll help us through this difficult period. If they seriously believe we are not trying hard enough or working hard enough, then I don’t think they are analysing the game in the way they should.’

In truth, except for the pre-match pyrotechnics, there was little to warm the hearts of those Palace supporters on a chilly evening in south London.

It was the visitors who provided the fireworks on the pitch as Andoni Iraola’s Bournemouth revolution continues to quietly gather momentum. Victory moved them level on points with and one place behind Palace in the table. If last night was anything to go by, they will soon be looking over their shoulders at Hodgson’s side.

One of the hosts’ few clear-cut chances of the night came inside the opening three minutes. Jordan Ayew should have put Palace ahead but could only head straight at Neto in the Bournemouth goal after Michael Olise’s free-kick found him unmarked from 10 yards out.

A shaky start refused to deter a resurgent Bournemouth, though. Antoine Semenyo saw his curling effort pushed wide of the post by Sam Johnstone but Iraola’s side were soon ahead through Senesi.

Ryan Christie’s corner was smartly flicked on at the front post by Luis Sinisterra and the defender beat Joel Ward to the ball to nod in his first goal of the season.

The hosts almost pulled one back immediately through Ayew, whose shot could only be parried by Neto. He was grateful to see Illia Zabarnyi slide in to prevent Odsonne Edouard from levelling the score on the rebound.

At the other end, Justin Kluivert’s mazy run from the halfway line ended with a laboured poke wide of Johnstone’s goal but still the boos echoed around Selhurst Park.

The second-half started with a bang from the boot of Jefferson Lerma, who forced Neto to tip his volley onto the post. An even better chance fell the way of the former Bournemouth man later in the half, but he smashed his volley over from the edge of the area.

Palace meanwhile have failed to win in four and dropped down to 14th place after the defeat

Palace continued to huff and puff but never really made Iraola’s side sweat over their single goal advantage.

Instead, Moore came off the bench to rub salt into the wounds on a thoroughly miserable night for the hosts with his stoppage time header.

With fixtures against Liverpool, Manchester City and arch rivals Brighton to come in December, it is hard to see Hodgson’s side’s slide down the table ending soon.
