New Lazio signing Daniel Maldini confirms Maurizio Sarri will play him as a false nine and feels no pressure from being Paolo’s son: ‘I’m used to it.’

Lazio’s January signing, Maldini, was introduced at a press conference on Friday.

“The feelings and thoughts are super positive. The teammates have welcomed me well,” said the 24-year-old via Calciomercato.com.

“I already knew some of them and I can’t wait to get started and show my worth. I immediately spoke to the coach, who explained to me his ideas. My role will be false nine. It’s quite a new thing, but I’m happy to test myself this way. There is pressure in every role. Strikers go on the pitch to score goals, but letting the others score is also positive.”

Maldini has already made his debut at Lazio in a 3-2 win over Genoa last week.

“I think I’ve arrived in the right place at the right time. I know my shortcomings; I must be more consistent, also mentally,” he said.

Daniel Maldini: ‘I make decisions about my own life’

“I don’t think about personal targets, but I hope to be decisive for the team. We have spoken about targets, but we must focus on one game at a time.

“My father’s advice is the one that a father gives to a son, but in the end, I make decisions about my own life,” he concluded.

“It’s always been this way. I’m used to living with the weight of my surname, and that’s okay.”
