Danny Rohl’s Rangers revolution continued on Friday night as his Light Blues smashed League Two side Annan Athletic 5-0 at Ibrox – but the manager was left frustrated with the SFA from banning two young stars he wanted to hand debuts.

Bojan Miovski scored a hat-trick for the Glasgow giants while Kieran Dowell and Thelo Aasgaard were also on target as Rangers secured the biggest win of Rohl’s impressive reign.

But the 36-year-old German really want to see some of his youngest stars in action on an evening on which he changed his starting XI around extensively.

Rohl: I wanted Glasgow and Scall to play

Rohl fumed that he wanted to see promising academy players Kyle Glasgow and Ashton Scally in action – only to be told he wasn’t allowed to include the 15-year-olds in the team by the SFA. Players must be 16 or over to play in the Scottish Cup.

The boss told Rangers TV: “It’s always important for us as a club and the academy to give young players game time.

“It was a shame that we weren’t allowed to take Kyle and Ashton as well. Players should have this opportunity to play but these are the rules. They are players with high potential; we really like them.

“Hopefully when they are the right age they can help us as well.”

Curtis and Lawson get Rangers experience

Rohl did give a couple of youngsters good minutes, with Findlay Curtis back in the starting XI and Zebedee Lawson getting minutes off the bench.

Lawson said: “I was over the moon. I couldn’t imagine what it felt like coming on. It was as good as they say.

“I was in my room when I got called. I got shouted and I was just so happy! I called my mum, my dad, and they wouldn’t let me off the phone the whole day. It was really good.

“It was a great moment. It was a proud moment for all of them, for me too, and for all of the people that have helped me get here. It’s been a good journey.

“It gives me so much more motivation to push forward, put in extra, and continue doing what I’m doing.”

Rangers’ next challenge comes in the Europa League against Ludogorets next Thursday at Ibrox, with the Gers almost certainly out.
