The Lega Serie A has announced that Napoli and Inter’s final matches of the 2024-25 season will take place on Friday night: Two matches which will finally settle the league title.
There is just one point separating Napoli and Inter at the top of the Serie A standings with one game to go following a 0-0 draw between the Partenopei and Parma and a 2-2 draw between the Nerazzurri and Lazio on Sunday night.
Given that there is still a possibility of having a Serie A play-off if the two teams finish the season level on points, and given that Inter are participating in the Champions League final on May 31, a scheduling issue arose which led to disagreements over the dates for the final round of the 2024-25 season.
Serie A sets dates for Napoli and Inter title deciders
Those disagreements have since been settled, as a decision has been taken to play the matches Napoli-Cagliari and Como-Inter at 19.45 BST on Friday evening (May 23).
All of the other eight matches scheduled for the final round of the 2024-25 Serie A season will take place on either Saturday or Sunday (May 24 or May 25).
The decision came after a meeting of the league council on Monday morning. The Lega council gathered first thing in the morning, but their meeting was almost immediately suspended after it became clear that there were still disagreements over the scheduling for the final week of the season.
Eventually, discussions got back underway and the decision was finally taken to play the Napoli and Inter matches on Friday night and the rest of the matches on Saturday or Sunday.
