Bayern Munich were dealt an emotional blow during their Champions League encounter with Atalanta Bergamo as Alphonso Davies had to be substituted after just 25 minutes.

The Canadian international had only recently returned from a muscle injury, making his early exit particularly concerning for both the player and the club.

Davies appeared to suffer a reaction during the second half and was unable to continue, prompting Bayern’s medical staff to signal for a substitution. As he left the pitch, the Canadian international was visibly emotional and was seen in tears on the sidelines.

It is currently unclear what exactly caused the issue or what kind of injury Davies may have sustained. Bayern are expected to provide further updates after the match or following medical examinations.

The incident cast a shadow over the evening for the Bavarians, who will now be hoping the setback proves less serious than initially feared.
