Barcelona are firmly in the race to sign Alphonso Davies, according to German media.

The Bayern Munich left-back continues to be the subject of rampant speculation. Massively improved under Vincent Kompany, Davies is now once again showing the form that once made him one of the world’s best players in his position.

This upturn in fortunes has led to a kind of rapprochement between his camp and Bayern. The latter still have no intention of yielding to his demands of a €20 million-per-season salary and a €15m signing bonus, but the Bavarians have renewed hope of reaching a compromise, according to Sky Germany.

Over the summer, talks to extend his expiring contract had been completely dormant, but a good start to the season and the player’s excellent relationship with Kompany have led to fresh negotiations.

Despite this, it is still more likely that the 23-year-old will depart Bayern as a free agent next summer rather than signing fresh terms.

Barcelona rival Real Madrid and Man Utd

According to BILD reporter Christian Falk, Real Madrid are still in pole position to sign Davies, as they have been for months. However, the journalist has also confirmed that Barcelona and Man Utd are in the race.

The latter view Davies as an opportunity too good to pass up, though they are aware that they perhaps have the smallest chance of landing him next year.

As for Barcelona, the interest in Davies is now driven primarily by Hansi Flick, who previously coached the Canada international at Bayern and won the Champions League with him in 2020.

Due to his expiring deal, Barcelona feel that they can afford him even if his demands are quite steep. Moreover, Barcelona were admirers of Davies even before Flick came on board in the summer.

Fabrizio Romano recently revealed that Blaugrana chiefs had made contact with his camp earlier this year to sound out a potential move. It remains to be seen if Barcelona can beat El Clasico rivals Real Madrid to his signature.
