Dayot Upamecano explains decision to extend his Bayern contract

Dayot Upamecano has revealed why he opted to sign a contract extension with Bayern Munich.

After months of negotiations, Bayern Munich announced last week that Dayot Upamecano has extended his contract with the club until 2030.

In an interview with Sky Germany, the French centre-back has now explained why he chose to stay with the German champions.

“I felt the club’s trust. We have an excellent coach and an excellent team. I’m very happy here,” Upamecano said.

“I just want to give everything for the club and the fans and repay the trust they have placed in me.”

Head coach Vincent Kompany also played a key role in the decision.

“He is a very open coach and always ready to talk,” Upamecano explained. 

“He does that very well, and I’m very happy with him. I can always go to him if I feel something in training didn’t go right,” the centre-back added.
