Juventus and Milan could be paired together in the Champions League knockout playoff, but Alessandro Del Piero hopes the Serie A giants won’t meet so early in the competition.

Both Juventus and Milan qualified for the Champions League knockout playoff, but both sides lost on Wednesday night.

The Bianconeri lost 2-0 at home to Benfica, while the Rossoneri were beaten 2-1 away by Fabio Cannavaro’s Dinamo Zagreb.

Juventus and Milan could meet in the knockout playoff draw on Friday, but Del Piero hopes the Serie A giants will get opponents from a different country.

“I hope they won’t meet in the playoff,” the ex-striker told Sky Sport Italia.

“Juventus’ defeat hurts. They kept possession but didn’t create much, leaving Benfica with a chance to double their lead, which they eventually scored with a spectacular move. There was goodwill but not enough quality. Evidently, something is missing.

“The club must provide help as well. It can’t only be the coach’s fault. Juventus need unity to find an escape route.”
