Dembele set for bitter PSG summer exit after transfer meeting with Man City chief

Ousmane Dembele could be heading towards a blockbuster summer transfer to Manchester City after the Paris Saint-Germain star’s agent was pictured meeting with Hugo Viana over a potential move.

Dembele is coming off the back of a sensational year in which he won the Ballon D’Or for his performances that saw PSG lift the Champions League trophy last season.

However, the 28-year-old endured a difficult campaign this year, making just seven starts in Ligue 1 amid struggles with injury and tensions with the club and manager Luis Enrique.

With his deal set to expire in 2028, PSG are keen to tie Dembele down to a new contract but negotiations have not progressed despite recent efforts, leading to doubts over the Frenchman’s future at the club.

And speculation has only intensified after Spanish outlet SPORT published a picture of Man City sporting director Viana with Dembele’s representative, Moussa Sissoko, described as ‘routine contacts between agents and top European clubs.’

While any formal approach has yet to be made, the report claims that the meeting ‘could be interpreted as an initial contact to explore scenarios for the upcoming transfer window’, although a deal for Dembele would prove ‘complex’ for City.

Dembele and PSG set to cut ties as Man City take aim over Premier League rivals

Dembele has seemingly fallen out of favour under Enrique this season and the pair’s relationship was strained after the forward recently made comments about the team which his manager brandished as ‘worthless’.

Both Enrique and PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi have spoken about no player ‘being bigger than the club’ amid the issues with Dembele and his contract renewal and it appears as though a bitter departure could be on the cards this summer.

While the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal have also been linked with a move for Dembele, Viana’s meeting with the player’s agent could point to City having the advantage in any race.

However, according to SPORT, PSG ‘do not forsee an easy departure’ for Dembele and City would need to offer ‘a very high investment’ to facilitate a deal – something which the Premier League giants will assess in the coming months ahead of the summer transfer window.
