United have yet to formalise transfer plans after the arrival of Ruben Amorim last month but, with the new Red Devils boss aiming to revolutionise the team tactically, players suited to his system could be targeted.

One of the players being considered is Geovany Quenda, who broke into Sporting’s team this season playing under Amorim as a right-sided wing back.

Only three players have played more minutes than Quenda this season, leading to interest from a host of Europe’s top sides including United.

And, according to TEAMtalk, Liverpool have entered the race for Quenda, with Portuguese super agent Jorge Mendes representing the youngster and allegedly having already held talks with United over the player’s future.

The report claims that Mendes’ ‘diary is already filling up’ with appointments to discuss Quenda, with Manchester City, RB Leipzig and Bayer Leverkusen all credited with an interest.

What does the future hold for Geovany Quenda?

Quenda signed a new deal at Sporting in September to tie him down to the club until 2027 but the presence of Mendes as his agent could imply the teenager’s mindset towards transfer speculation.

Mendes has historically helped a number of major stars secure big transfers and, with Paris Saint-Germain also considering a move for Quenda, it is likely the Portuguese international is sold next year.

Amorim’s appointment at United could give the Premier League side the edge over rivals but the Red Devils already have Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui capable of playing in Quenda’s position.

United are believed to be prioritising a midfielder and a striker in the coming months as well as a left-back, indicating that Quenda may not be a priority target, although his potential could still see the club make a move to beat their rivals to the punch.
