VfL Wolfsburg are considering changing their coach for the second time this season, with the potential sacking of Daniel Bauer “being intensively discussed” following Sunday’s heavy 4-0 defeat to VfB Stuttgart, according to Kicker.

The German outlet reports that former Wolfsburg coach Dieter Hecking is among the favourites to take over if Bauer is relieved of his duties.

Bauer took charge from Paul Simonis in November, and after an initial improvement in results, Die Wölfe have slipped back into a slump and are winless in their last seven matches.

Hecking, who coached Wolfsburg between January 2013 and October 2016, has been out of work since leaving his position at Bochum in September 2025.

Another former Wolfsburg coach, Felix Magath, has also been linked with the role, but club chairman Sebastian Rudolph insisted ahead of the Stuttgart game that there had been “no talks” with the 72-year-old.
