Federico Dimarco opens up about stepping away from friends after the end of the 2024-25 season and reveals the Nerazzurri hoped to score one goal in the first half against Pisa on Friday.

Dimarco was introduced as a substitute after just 34 minutes in Inter’s 6-2 win over Pisa. The Serie A giants were two goals down and scored three times before the break after the Italian defender was subbed in.

Dimarco provided one goal and one assist, resulting in the man of the match at San Siro.

“When I came on, the only thing on our minds was winning the match, nothing else. We didn’t start well,” Dimarco told DAZN via FcInter1908.

“The idea was to score at least one goal in the first half, and then the second half would be long. Then we scored three and did well. It can happen when you play so many games; sometimes you can get the approach wrong, but it was important to turn it around.”

Dimarco has been a key Inter player so far this season with five goals and nine assists in 20 Serie A matches.

“I’ve always worked hard in training. After the bad spell last season, I wanted to start from scratch. I spent a month where I disappeared from my friends, as I needed time to reflect,” he added.

“I tried to start again as strongly as possible, and I managed to do it. I isolated myself to think about where I could improve. Not only on the pitch, but also on a personal level. I’m happy.”

Inter’s win allows the Nerazzurri to extend their lead at the top of the table.

Cristian Chivu’s men now have six points more than second-placed Milan. The Rossoneri will visit Roma at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday night.
