United States of America presidential hopeful Donald Trump has been mocked by Scottish football fans after a bizarre post on social media.

The 78-year-old is aiming to be re-elected into the most powerful political position in the world on 5 November after losing the election to Joe Biden back in 2020.

The controversial American billionaire has posted several reminders about absentee voting on his official X account, but his latest post for people in North Carolina has confused Scottish football fans, with Trump tagging an account called ‘@SPFLMediawatch.’

The account, which is dedicated to Scottish football, replied to Trump’s post on X by commenting: “#stop sorry mate I live in South Carolina.” Several other Scottish football fans also got in on the action.

One posted: “Trump and Scottish Football Twitter is football heritage,” while another added: “If elected would you be able to convince the SFA to increase the number of teams in the SPFL to 16 or 18 teams please?”

A third fan even asked: “Will you sort out the VAR situation in Scotland if elected?”

Despite inciting a response from a section of Scottish football fans, Trump’s full focus will be on securing a return to the White House, rather than any upcoming SPFL action.

The 2024-24 SPFL season so far

Celtic are currently top of the Scottish top flight table, having picked up 25 points from their opening nine matches.

Aberdeen have also racked up 25 points, but they are behind Celtic on goal difference. Meanwhile, Rangers are in third place, with two defeats so far this season, narrowly ahead of Dundee United.

Hibernian are currently rock bottom, having accumulated just six points in nine games.
