Dortmund hold talks with Rangnick about coaching job

Borussia Dortmund have reportedly held talks with Ralf Rangnick over the possibility of him taking over as head coach.

Ralf Rangnick has been named as a candidate to take over as Borussia Dortmund coach following the sacking of Nuri Sahin.

According to Sky Germany, Dortmund bosses Hans-Joachim Watzke and Lars Ricken recently travelled to Austria to hold talks with Rangnick about the possibility of him taking over.

However, the report claims that the 66-tear-old is currently leaning towards turning Dortmund down, while German media outlet ran reports that his interest in the job is “very limited”.  

After all, Rangnick’s contract as coach of the Austrian national team runs until the end of 2025. 

According to ran, his contract will be automatically extended until after the 2026 World Cup if he manages to qualify Austria for the tournament.

Dortmund have also held talks with Niko Kovac, but are reportedly in disagreement with the former Bayern Munich coach over the contract length.

According to reports, Dortmund want Kovac to take charge until the summer, but the 53-year-old is demanding a contract until at least 2026, and it’s unclear whether the parties will be able to overcome that hurdle.

For the time being, Dortmund’s U19 coach, Mike Tullberg, is in charge on an interim basis.
