Dortmund loan midfield talent Wätjen to Bochum

The German youth international will represent VfL Bochum next season.

VfL Bochum have officially announced the loan signing of Kjell Wätjen ahead of the upcoming 2025-26 season. 

The talented midfielder has been in desperate need of game time having not played a minute for Borussia Dortmund since December.

Moving to the Ruhrstadion should enable the 19-year-old to get valuable experience in the 2.Bundesliga.

“We made a conscious decision to loan Kjell to VfL Bochum – a very ambitious second-division club where he can gain a lot of match practice,” explained sporting director Sebastian Kehl.

“Due to the competitive situation in our midfield, the latter would have been difficult for Kjell at BVB in 2025/2026.

“Nevertheless, we continue to believe in him, will closely monitor his performances in our neighbor’s jersey, and wish Kjell the greatest possible success,” he added.
