Patrice Evra tore into Marcus Rashford after Man Utd‘s loss to Newcastle and the England star was duly dropped for the clash against Chelsea.

It has not been an easy campaign for Marcus Rashford. Like the rest of Man Utd’s players, the 26-year-old has struggled to perform this term. Despite being so electric last season and earning himself a bumper new deal in the process, Rashford has only managed a measly two goals and four assists in all competitions this time around.

The attacker put in a particularly lacklustre performance against Newcastle as Man Utd were beaten 1-0 at St. James’ Park. The result ramped the pressure on head coach Erik ten Hag up to eleven and there have been rumours that the England star is not convinced by the Dutchman’s methods and has thrown in the towel.

Off the back of the Newcastle result, Rashford was dropped by Ten Hag for their crucial midweek clash against Chelsea, with Alejandro Garnacho getting the nod ahead of him. Man Utd legend Patrice Evra was particularly scathing in his assessment of Rashford’s Newcastle showing.

What did Evra say?

“I was quite pleased with the performance in the Champions League,” Evra said ahead of the Chelsea game, “but against Newcastle it was unprofessional, players didn’t want to be on the pitch. Rashford – I remember Giggsy [Ryan Giggs] at 39 he wouldn’t give up like that.”

“There’s something wrong. I don’t know if it’s about the communication. Every successful team they run, that’s the basics. That’s what they [Man Utd] are not doing right now.”

Newcastle legend Alan Shearer echoed Evra’s statement and added: “The biggest difference is when you compare in terms of the running [Miguel] Almiron and [Anthony] Gordon did. The difference in attitude was stark, that’s why you have to expect a reaction from these players tonight [against Chelsea].”
