Ducksch and Fritz praise rising Njinmah: “An absolute weapon.”

Following his second goal in the last four league fixtures (all starts), SV Werder Bremen licensing director Clemens Fritz and attacking partner Marvin Ducksch reserved words of praise for young striker Justin Njinmah. 

The return of striker Marvin Ducksch from suspension – combined with what one assumed would have been an appropriate message sent to departing striker Rafael Santos Borré – gave SV Werder Bremen trainer OIe Werner full license to replace the attacking tandem of Justin Njinmah and Nick Woltemade that surprisingly beat Bayern last Sunday.

Ducksch did indeed come on for Woltemade against Freiburg this weekend. Werner nevertheless opted to stick with one half of the attacking tandem the SV gaffer pejoratively referred to as the “3. Liga” duo following last weekend’s win. Twenty-three-year-old Njinmah started his fourth consecutive match.

The Hamburg native (somewhat unlucky not to score against Bayern) netted his second league tally in that span. A goal in the 3-1 win gives Njinmah four goals and two assists on the season. The pacey youth has absolutely justified the faith the club placed in him this summer with his performance.

SV licensing director Clemens Fritz made sure to register his approval when conducting his post-match interview with Sky Germany. So too did Njinmah’s fellow top-axis striker Marvin Ducksch.

“He just has an element in his game with which he can always create a goal threat,” Fritz told his interviewer, “It’s extremely difficult for any defender to tackle him. He’s in excellent form and played a great game again today.”

“Anyone who can run that fast and then use it well is, I think, an absolute weapon for any team,” Ducksch added, “Now he’s playing from the start, showing more and more what he can do, getting more and more involved in our game and is hugely important for us right now.”

The player himself remained modest.

“I’m being used really well and the boys trust me,” Njinmah said, “I’m just trying to pay it back on the pitch. I think there is still room for improvement.”
