Inter wing-back Denzel Dumfries has withdrawn from the Netherlands international squad for the upcoming March international break due to an injury concern, which means that he will return to Milan for further testing with Inter.

The Dutch federation confirmed on Monday that Dumfries has dropped out of the March international squad due to an unspecified injury. He has been replaced by Mats Wieffer of Brighton and Youri Baas of Ajax. The Netherlands will play against Spain over two legs of the Nations League quarter-finals this week.

Reports elsewhere suggest that the 28-year-old will be assessed by Inter in a few days’ time. Following the statement 2-0 win away against Atalanta in a major clash for the Serie A title on Sunday, Simone Inzaghi has given the Inter players who have not been called up for international duty an extended break.

Dumfries adds to Inter’s wing-back injury concerns

The remaining Nerazzurri players are due to meet for training on Wednesday, which is when Dumfries will likely be taken in for further assessment on his injury.

Fcinternews.it suggests that Dumfries’s condition will be monitored on a day-by-day basis by the Nerazzurri.

Inter have had a fair few injuries to contend with at wing-back in recent weeks, as Dumfries’s counterpart on the left flank, Federico Dimarco, has also been out of action through inrjuy, and will also not be involved in the upcoming March international break.

January recruit Nicola Zalewski and experienced right wing-back option Matteo Darmian remain out as well, and Carlos Augusto has only just returned.
