Newcastle are interested in Chelsea defender Axel Disasi, which will come as a major boost to Liverpool‘s hopes of signing Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi.
The England international only has a year to run on his Crystal Palace deal and is therefore seen as a hugely attractive commodity. Liverpool, in particular, have in recent weeks been credited with a concrete interest in Guehi amid ongoing uncertainty surrounding Ibrahima Konate.
Like Guehi, the Reds defender is on an expiring contract, and talks over a new deal have so far yielded no tangible progress, so the Frenchman’s future is far from certain at this stage. In fact, Konate may even be sold this summer should a suitable offer arrive.
Guehi would be an obvious replacement, and the 24-year-old is understood to be open to leaving Palace, although he understandably wants assurances of game time before moving to an elite club.
Over the past 24 hours, reports have emerged that Newcastle are ready to reignite their long-running pursuit of Guehi, but after agreeing a whopping €64 million transfer for winger Anthony Elanga on Monday, the Magpies may have to settle for a cheaper defensive option.
Newcastle want Disasi
A more affordable choice for the Magpies could be Chelsea defender Axel Disasi, who is also a player who has long been associated with a move to St. James’ Park.
According to RMC reporter Fabrice Hawkins, Newcastle and Villarreal hold a genuine interest in the France international, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa.
Disasi reportedly has a release clause, but its value has not been disclosed. Chelsea are said to be holding out for a sizeable transfer fee in the region of €30m, but he is nevertheless fully expected to leave the club this summer.
Villarreal are ‘persistent’ in their interest in Disasi, but such a hefty outlay may be difficult to muster for the LaLiga side, leaving Newcastle in a strong position should they indeed opt to make a move for the versatile 27-year-old.
