Jorgen Strand Larsen has agreed a new long-term contract with Wolves after summer talks with Chelsea and Newcastle.

The Norway international became the subject of a late-window transfer whirlwind over the summer, having impressed in his first season in the Premier League while on loan at Wolves.

Strand Larsen scored 14 goals in 35 appearances at Molineux and subsequently had his stay made permanent. However, Newcastle and Chelsea attempted to prise him away just weeks later.

The Magpies were desperately scrambling to find a new striker, as star forward Alexander Isak had gone on strike to force through his eventual British-record transfer to Liverpool. Several top targets had rejected Newcastle, prompting them to make several bids for Strand Larsen.

Chelsea also reportedly took a late interest in the 25-year-old following Liam Delap’s injury. With Nicolas Jackson not willing to return to London after already flying out to Munich to complete his Bayern move, the Blues explored a Deadline Day move for the Wolves striker.

Strand Larsen extends Wolves contract

Neither Newcastle nor Chelsea were ultimately successful with their advances, as Wolves had been unwavering in their stance that Strand Larsen was not for sale, especially not with just a few days left to go in the window.

The forward had been keen on the move to Newcastle, but he refused to actively try and force through a transfer. Wolves appreciated his respectful, understanding behaviour and promised him fresh terms.

Discussions over a new contract began shortly after the window closed, and several sources, including Fabrizio Romano and Ben Jacobs, now report that Strand Larsen has agreed a new five-year deal with the option of a further season.

Crucially for Wolves, who lost Matheus Cunha to Man Utd due to a release clause in the summer, this new contract for Strand Larsen does not include any exit mechanism, allowing the Midlands club full control over his future.
