Eberl opens up on expiring contracts of Kimmich, Sané and Muller

Bayern Munich boss Max Eberl has once again addressed the expiring contracts of Joshua Kimmich, Leroy Sané and Thomas Müller.

Having already secured new contracts for Manuel Neuer, Alphonso Davies and Jamal Musiala, Bayern Munich board member for sport Max Eberl still has plenty of work to do.

A number of contracts are due to expire in the summer, with Joshua Kimmich, Leroy Sané and Thomas Müller among those whose futures are up in the air.

According to reports, Bayern recently withdrew their contract offer to Kimmich as the board grew tired of waiting for the 30-year-old to make a decision.

However, the possibility of a contract extension remains, with Eberl insisting that Kimmich’s future must be resolved soon.

“As has often been said and confirmed, the talks have been respectful and appreciative. But everyone is of the opinion that a decision should be made as soon as possible,” Eberl told Sport Bild.

As for Leroy Sané, Sky Germany recently reported that the winger has a better chance of securing a new deal now than a few months ago. And Eberl confirms that the 29-year-old has made a positive impression of late.

“There is still no decision on Leroy. With his current performances, he is providing arguments in favor of a new contract,” said Eberl.

“We have to discuss: Which contracts do we extend and how does it fit into the overall constellation? Leroy, like everyone else, has a chance of getting a new contract.”

Eberl also touched on Thomas Müller’s expiring contract, saying he’s confident a decision can be made on the 35-year-old’s future relatively quickly.

“I’ve already said that the conversation with Thomas will be the shortest of all: you don’t have to have a big discussion with him about prospects or anything like that,” said Eberl. 

“The important thing is that we come to a decision together that is best for everyone. Thomas Müller is an icon for FC Bayern. It’s as much about his thoughts on how he sees his role as it is about our thoughts. And of course you always have to consider the financial aspects of something like this. 

“There was a conversation at the end of last year and we will continue that. With Thomas, we’re taking the conversations out of ‘crunch time’.”
