Eric Dier’s future is up in the air, with the Bayern Munich centre-back’s contract expiring this summer.

Reports suggest that Bayern have been in talks with Dier’s management for some time, and the former Tottenham defender is eager to extend his stay.

Currently, the 31-year-old is doing everything he can to convince Bayern’s decision-makers that he deserves a new deal, filling in for the long-term injured Dayot Upamecano at the heart of defense.

“Since Dayot Upamecano’s injury, Eric has proven his importance and shown how solid he is. He’s been there and knows what he can do,” said Bayern’s board member for sport, Max Eberl, in a post-match interview following Saturday’s 3-0 win over Mainz.

“He’s a very, very important player for us at this stage. We’ll see on August 1st who will be in the squad for the next season.”

Dier has made 25 appearances this season, scoring two goals and providing one assist.
