Edin Džeko marked his return to German football with a goal in Schalke’s come-from-behind draw with Kaiserslautern. The Bosnian striker talked about his goal-scoring instinct after the game.

“Even at 39 – when you’re a bit older – you don’t forget how to score goals,” said Džeko. “During my time in Germany, it was always amazing to play in this stadium (Veltins Arena) with this crowd. From the very beginning, I genuinely wanted to come here.”

Džeko left Wolfsburg 16 years ago, 18 months after finishing top scorer in their surprise championship victory. He further added more personal and team accolades to his name during his spells at the Premier League and Serie A.

“I wasn’t looking at the money; I simply wanted to play in front of this fantastic crowd and help this team,” added Džeko.
