Edu ‘set to TREBLE his salary’ when he leaves Arsenal to link up with Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis – who could make him a CEO

Arsenal sporting director Edu is set to leave the club for a second time.

Edu spent four and a half seasons of his playing career with the Gunners before departing for Valencia in 2005. 

The former midfielder returned to the north London outfit in July 2019 when he was hired as the club’s first technical director. He was later promoted to sporting director.

Since then, Edu has been widely credited with doing an excellent job and playing a crucial role in Arsenal’s rebuild under manager Mikel Arteta.

However, as revealed by Mail Sport on Monday morning, the 46-year-old Brazilian has decided to move on following talks with the club’s hierarchy.

It has since emerged that Edu is now poised to link up with Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis to work in his multi-team operation.

The Marinakis group includes Greek club Olympiacos and Portuguese side Rio Ave, as well as Forest.

According to The Independent, Edu’s salary in his new role is set to be around three times higher than what he is currently earning at Arsenal.

It is also said that Marinakis is open to the idea of making Edu a CEO – something he apparently had aspirations of achieving while at the Emirates Stadium.

Olympiacos were champions of Greece in 2022 but have finished third in each of the past two seasons.

Meanwhile, Rio Ave ended the 2023-24 campaign 11th in Portugal’s 18-team Primeira Liga.

Forest finished 17th in the Premier League last season but a fine start this term sees them currently sat in third place – two spots ahead of Arsenal – after 10 rounds of fixtures.
