Werder Bremen will attempt to avoid a fifth consecutive defeat when they travel to Deutsche Bank Park for Friday’s meeting with Eintracht Frankfurt.
Eintracht Frankfurt
Frankfurt will be keen to return to winning ways this weekend after failing to pick up a victory in either of their last two matches. After losing 3-1 to Borussia Dortmund in their final game before the international period, Frankfurt resumed their Bundesliga campaign with a goalless home draw against Union Berlin last weekend.
As a result of their stalemate with die Eisernen, Frankfurt have now won just two of their previous eight matches in the Bundesliga. Despite struggling for consistency, Dino Toppmöller’s side remain on course to achieve a top-six finish, with five points separating them from the chasing pack.
Frankfurt will fancy their chances of adding to their points tally on Friday, having avoided defeat in each of their last seven top-flight home games. They are also enjoying a three-game unbeaten run in meetings with Bremen after they fought back from two goals down to take a point from November’s reverse fixture.
Team News
Frankfurt are expected to be without the services of Sebastian Rode, Mehdi Loune, Sasa Kalajdzic and Hugo Ekitike.
Werder Bremen
Bremen are gone five games without a win since beating Köln on February 16. After playing out a 1-1 draw with Darmstadt, Bremen suffered three consecutive 2-1 defeats prior to last Saturday’s home meeting with Wolfsburg. Unfortunately for Bremen, it proved to be another disappointing outing, as they fell to a 2-0 loss. Not long after Anthony Jung had been sent off, Maxence Lacroix fired Wolfsburg into the lead in first-half stoppage. Lacroix was also given his marching orders in the 76th minute, but it did little to alter the result of the contest as Lovro Majer grabbed a late goal to condemn Bremen to a fourth straight loss.
Despite experiencing a poor run of form, Ole Werner’s side still occupy a comfortable midtable position, having collected 30 points from 27 matches. With three points separating them from the top nine, Bremen will be harbouring hopes of securing a top-half finish.
They are also lookinh to clinch their first win over Frankfurt since recording a 2-1 victory at the Weserstadion in February 2021. However, they have not beaten Die Adler at Deutsche Bank Park since picking up a narrow win in September 2018.
Team News
The visitors are unable to call upon Skelly Alvero, Justin Njinmah, Niklas Stark, and Michael Zetterer. Meanwhile, Jung is suspended after being sent off last weekend.
