Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has effectively confirmed that Alejandro Garnacho has joined the club from Manchester United.
The Argentina international’s move has been formally agreed between all parties and he is currently in London to undergo a medical ahead of a €46 million (£40m) transfer.
Speaking ahead of Chelsea’s clash against Fulham on Saturday, Maresca confirmed that Garnacho will become the Blues’ next summer signing.
“I know that he [Garnacho] is around here,” Maresca told reporters (as per BBC Sport). “I don’t know exactly where he is. He is a winger, and I see him as a winger.”
When asked if fans can expect any more business before the window closes at 19:00 BST on Monday, Maresca replied: “You can expect anything. The transfer window is open, so anything can happen. In and out.”
He added: “I joined the club one year ago, saying I was in love with the squad, and the squad is getting better and better, so my feeling is exactly the same.”
However, Maresca was unable to add clarity on whether the current members of Chelsea’s ‘Bomb Squad’ will be reintegrated if they fail to secure a transfer away from the club.
Nicolas Jackson, Alfie Gilchrist, Christopher Nkunku and Tyrique George are all close to leaving Chelsea, although there are doubts over whether fellow unwanted stars Ben Chilwell, Axel Disasi, David Datro Fofana and Raheem Sterling will be able to find a new team before Deadline Day ends.
Chelsea’s summer transfers
Garnacho will become Chelsea’s ninth signing of the summer transfer window, following the arrivals of Joao Pedro, Jamie Gittens, Jorrel Hato, Liam Delap, Estevao Willian, Dario Essugo, Mamadou Sarr and Kendry Paez.
However, the Blues have also been extremely active in regards to outgoings and their net spend currently stands at just €3.2m as a result of their impressive business in the sales market.
