Erik ten Hag will have to lead his side to victory over Coventry City or will almost certainly be axed from his Manchester United job, according to reports.

The Evening Standard states that the club must beat the Championship side in the FA Cup this afternoon or the Dutchman will be axed at the end of the season.

It’s thought that Ten Hag hoped the 4-3 FA Cup quarter-final win over Liverpool a month ago would be enough to salvage the season but he has overseen two losses and two draws since, meaning that Man Utd will not be playing Champions League football next season barring an unprecedented change.

The Red Devils failed to secure wins against Brentford, Chelsea and Liverpool while their latest match was a 2-2 draw to Bournemouth.

Ineos, including CEO Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his executives, are set to review the situation, hoping that the club has the ‘best in class’ in all areas.

Football director John Murtough left the club last week after a torrid spell at Old Trafford and Newcastle’s Dan Ashworth is set to take charge of transfers, once a compensation fee is sorted out.

What did Mark Robins say about the clash?

Indeed, loss to Coventry would seal Ten Hag’s exit from Man Utd and the club will begin the process of finding a new coach.

Coventry boss Mark Robins, a former Man Utd player, spoke about the upcoming encounter.

“I don’t think about that [playing for United in the past] and it is not about me for sure,” Robins said. “It has been an incredible team effort to go on this journey. People say United are this, that, or concede a lot of shots, but they have top international players.

“They are clearly favourites to win this game. We know what this game will be; the occasion is huge, but there will be no fear.”
