Goalkeeper Scott Carson is finally leaving Manchester City after six years at the Etihad after serving as a useful back-up option and he’s clearly left an impact on his team-mates with Erling Haaland posting a tribute
Erling Haaland bid an emotional farewell to Manchester City team-mate Scott Carson, who is leaving the Etihad after six years as the club’s back-up goalkeeper.
The former England international star only played twice for Pep Guardiola and Co but has proved to be a useful reserve option while also providing experience and leadership in the dressing room.
Now 39, Carson has finally left the club but it’s clear he had a big impact on his team-mates despite not being an important first team regular as Haaland made a tribute to the veteran shot-stopper.
Posting on his Instagram page, Haaland uploaded pictures of him next to Carson during their time together at City as he wished him well with his next chapter.
The Norwegian forward wrote in his caption: “The kind of teammate every squad needs. All the best in the new chapter @scottpcarson33!”

Carson’s last game came during the 2021-22 campaign against Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League, but he quickly became a much-loved member of the squad and played a big role in lifting morale and helping others in training.
In a statement on the club’s website announcing his exit, City wrote: “During his time at City, Carson has been praised by goalkeeping coach Xabi Mancisidor and peers Ederson and Stefan Ortega Moreno for his work ethic and the effect of his positive attitude amongst the group.
“He has been part of a squad that has lifted 11 major honours over the last six seasons during what has been a historic period of success for Pep Guardiola ’s team.
“Everyone at Manchester City would like to thank Scott for his hard work and dedication and wish him the very best of luck for the future.”
Carson only played 108 minutes at City but still enjoyed an incredible period that saw him form part of the squad that won the Premier League four times, as well as the FA Cup, Carabao Cup, Champions League and Club World Cup.
In his prime, Carson starred for Liverpool, Charlton, Aston Villa and West Brom in the Premier League before later spells with Bursaspor in Turkey and Wigan and Derby in the Championship. He also picked up four caps for England and featured at the 2010 World Cup, where he made a costly mistake in a 1-1 draw against the USA.
He joins Kevin de Bruyne in leaving City while Jack Grealish is also likely to follow them through the exit door.
