Manchester City star Erling Haaland has sent a frightening message to the rest of the Premier League after revealing how he plans to ‘become a better player’.

Haaland was on the scoresheet for Manchester City as they got their season off to a winning start with a 2-0 triumph over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

The Norwegian’s goal meant he had scored in all of his opening day games since moving to the Etihad from Borussia Dortmund in 2022.

He has required little adaption time to the English game and has gone on to score a staggering 64 goals from 67 Premier League appearances.

Despite his insane goal haul, Haaland remains unsatisfied and has City boss Pep Guardiola on his case to refine his game even further.

‘I want to get more involved, that’s what Pep wants,’ Haaland told Sky Sports after the match.

‘But in games like this, do I need to be that more involved? That’s the million-dollar question.

‘I want to get more assists and become a better player.”

Haaland’s goal was also representative of a message Guardiola had drilled into him.

The Norwegian pushed the ball into space with his right foot before producing finishing past Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez with his left.

‘I knew exactly what to do, I think it was a really good goal,’ Haaland said.

‘I remember last year he made a really good save against me, it had been irritating me for a long time, so yeah, it was a perfect goal.

‘The best players are the best on the easiest things. Touching it with your right and passing with your left. That’s the important thing. Pep [Guardiola] says this to me all the time.’

Haaland also joked that Guardiola ‘will not like me for saying this’ but such is the high level of play from City’s defenders and midfielders, he doesn’t need to chip in with linking up play.

However, he knows that taking up positions on the field to help with the build-up of play is ‘what Pep wants’.

Haaland and City’s attention now turns to their second league fixture as they welcome Ipswich Town to the Etihad Stadium on August 24.
