Estevao: How Maresca is making Chelsea’s wonderkid even more DANGEROUS

Chelsea striker Estevao has revealed what Enzo Maresca is doing behind the scenes at Stamford Bridge to make him an even more dangerous player.

The Brazilian arrived at Chelsea in the summer with the reputation as one of football’s hottest properties. He has gone about living up to this with some highly promising displays in his first weeks in England, capping it off with a late winner in a vital Premier League clash against Liverpool.

Estevao is well on the road to justifying his €45m transfer fee, but Maresca is doing his best to unlock even more from the teenager.

“At Chelsea, I’ve been changing positions frequently,” the 18-year-old told the media. “Maresca always tries to get the best out of me. Even in training, he’s been putting me in different attacking roles so I can have more repertoire, more game awareness. In the last match against Liverpool, I came on as a winger. And in the last Champions League game I played through the middle.”

This desire to try Estevao out in various areas of the attack is one that the youngster is receptive to.

“I’m open to various options on the pitch,” he explained. “Whatever position is available, I’ll do it, inside or out wide.”

Estevao’s value close to doubling already

Estevao is showing all the qualities that suggest he will realise his promise and become a star. While he has impressed on the field, this willingness to be adaptive and to try different roles will only put him in good standing for the years ahead.

Impressive early performances at Chelsea have already seen his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) jump to a massive €76.3m – almost double the Blues’ initial outlay.

With Maresca working hard to find out exactly what the teenager’s best role in his team is, this figure could well skyrocket in the weeks ahead.
