Europa League Roundup: Ligue 1 impresses again!

Marseille and Rennes continued their impressive UEFA Europa League campaigns with wins. Toulouse only drew, but they remain in second place in Group E behind Liverpool. In the UEFA Conference League, Paulo Fonseca’s Lille remained unbeaten with a win away to Olimpija Ljubljana.

Olympique de Marseille vs. Ajax: 4-3

Behind a hat-trick from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and a goal from Chancel Mbemba, Marseille secured a thrilling victory over Ajax. Furthermore, Les Phocéens sit atop Group B with 11 points and have clinched their spot in the knockout stage. They’ll face off against Brighton & Hove Albion, who have 10 points, on Dec. 14 to determine the group winner.

Toulouse FC vs. Union Saint-Gilloise: 0-0

Despite the scoreless draw, Les Violets, who have eight points in Group E, still control their destiny heading into Matchday 6. All they’ll need is a draw or win over LASK. However, there’s also the scenario of Union Saint-Gilloise losing or drawing against Liverpool, a result which would allow Toulouse to book their plans for the knockout stages.

Stade Rennais vs. Maccabi Haifa: 3-0

Les Rouge et Noirs are into the knockout stages after their win over Maccabi Haifa saw them move into first place with 12 points in Group F. Martin Terrier, Amine Gouiri, and Fabian Rieder provided the scoring punch in the victory.

Now, all that’s left for them to do is determine whether they’ll be the group winners or finish in second place. Villarreal has a makeup game against Maccabi Haifa on Dec. 6. Should the Spanish club draw or win, it will set up a winner-take-all match against Rennes on Dec. 14.

Lille OSC vs. Olimpija: 2-0

Shifting over to the UEFA Conference League, Les Dogues secured a 2-0 win over Olimpija thanks to goals from Rémy Cabella and Yusuf Yazıcı. Lille currently occupies first place in Group A with 11 points and is through to the knockout stages. The group winner will be decided on the final matchday, as ŠK Slovan Bratislava is right behind Lille with 10 points.
