Everton boss David Moyes calls on players to ‘put on a show’ in ’emotional’ Goodison Park send-off

Amid all the emotion of saying a fond farewell to their historic Goodison Park home, David Moyes is demanding his players put on a show for their Grand Old Lady this Sunday.

The Everton manager wants to provide a proper send-off for the iconic old stadium which the club has called home since 1892, and they certainly warmed up for the occasion well.

Fulham led at Craven Cottage through Raul Jimenez before the Toffees roared back with goals from Vitalii Mykolenko, Michael Keane and Beto.

Now, the focus shifts to what Moyes is calling the biggest game of their season – and to a future at their stunning new home at Bramley-Moore Dock.

He said: ‘I won’t want to go out with anything but a win. No, I won’t, because I’ve told the players it’s maybe the biggest game of the season for us next weekend.

‘And we’re going to be watched by great players, great managers. People who are far better than any of us, who have graced it.

‘So we’ve got to put a show on and we’ve got to try and show that we can play well. This was a big result for us because it gives us a chance to think about what we can do next week.

‘It will be emotional. I think it will be more because there’s so much in the community there. It’s a brilliant old lady of a stadium. And because of that, it will be missed.’

Moyes has seen the pitfalls of leaving an iconic old ground for a modern new home first-hand at West Ham, but he has high hopes for Everton’s move to Bramley Moore.

He said: ‘The change can be good, it can be bad as well. I think everybody at Everton is so looking forward to the move.

‘It’s time to leave Goodison because we’ve outgrown it. The new stadium is an iconic stadium which hopefully will be successful in many years to come.

‘I’ve been at clubs where you’ve moved to a new stadium and you have to try and make it your home. You have to find a way that our new stadium will become the new Goodison.’
