Ex-USA soccer star Taylor Twellman hastily deletes tweet calling Washington plane crash ‘suspicious’

Former USA soccer star Taylor Twellman quickly deleted a post on X calling the shocking collision between a Black Hawk helicopter and an American Airlines plane ‘suspicious’.

Sharing a clip of the crash on Thursday morning, Twellman wrote: ‘You can’t tell me this isn’t suspicious. My heart aches for those on that plane. Literally everyone’s worst nightmare.’

At least 30 people are suspected to have died in the incident which occurred on Wednesday night. Twellman, who played 30 times for the USA soccer team and now works an analyst on Apple’s Major League Soccer coverage, was quickly criticized by his followers.

One responded immediately to him, saying: ‘Conspiracy theories don’t f***ing help Taylor. I live in DC like 10min from Reagan, they share air space with Joint Base Bolling.

‘So it’s common to see Airport planes and mil aircraft flying overhead, the problem came down to horrible communication, either with (ATC) or the Helo.’

Twellman deleted the post and responded to the comment saying with a saluting emoji and the word: ‘Deleted.’

The collision took place as the American Airlines flight carrying 64 people made its final approach to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport shortly before 9pm ET.

A Black Hawk helicopter flying a training sortie cut through the airspace from the opposite direction under cover of darkness, with both aircraft seemingly unaware of the other’s presence.
