Fabrizio Romano confirms Juventus sacking of Thiago Motta

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Juventus will sack Thiago Motta as manager and replace him with Igor Tudor until the end of the season.

“Igor Tudor, prepared to fly to Turin as soon as Juventus will inform Thiago Motta of their decision to sack him.,” Romano tweeted on X.

“Contract until the end of the season with an option to extend until June 2026.”

Big things were expected of Motta when he was appointed as Max Allegri’s successor last summer.

Motta had enjoyed an historic season with Bologna, leading the side to qualification for the Champions League for the first time in six decades.

Motta a disaster at Juventus

However, Motta’s time at Juventus has been an unmitigated disaster.

With nine games remaining in Serie A, Juventus are fifth in Serie A and are struggling to qualify for the Champions League.

They were dumped out of this season’s Champions League by PSV in the playoffs and were knocked out of the Coppa Italia by relegation-threatened Empoli at home in the quarter finals.

Motta has struggled to incorporate a number of Juve-s big-money signings from last summer. Teun Koopmeiners, Douglas Luiz and Nico Gonzalez cost around €150 million combined and have all been massive flops.

Juventus have struggled to create and score goals all season, while in recent matches they have also shipped goals heavily.

His relationship with the locker room and the media has also been called into question.

The last straw for Juventus management came in the last two matchdays as they were thrashed 4-0 at home by Atalanta and 3-0 away at Fiorentina.

Motta will be replaced by former Juventus defender Tudor until the end of the season, with the option of a further season.

Tudor played for Juve from 1998 until 2007, winning multiple trophies. He was also assistant manager in Turin to Andrea Pirlo during the 2020-21 season.
