Romano says a deal is all agreed for the ex-Spain star to join the management setup at Camp Nou and that he may begin his duties as early as next week.

It will be another return for Thiago who impressed last season for a few months as a coach under Flick but is best known for his time as a midfielder at Barca.

Thiago spent eight years at Barcelona as a player, joining the youth academy in 2005 and graduating all the way to the senior side.

Thiago to return to Barcelona

He made over 100 appearances for Barcelona’s main side, winning 10 trophies – including four La Liga crowns and a Champions League.

Emerging as one of the best young midfielders in Europe, Thiago moved to Bayern in 2013 where he enjoyed the best years of his career.

He made over 200 appearances and won seven Bundesliga titles, as well as the Champions League under Flick as coach.

The pair have continued to have a great relationship, which has led to Flick brinking Thiago back to Barcelona.

Thiago joined Liverpool in 2020 but after four injury-hit seasons he decided to retire from football prematurely.

Thiago is still only 34 but is seen as someone who has a bright future in the coaching game.

He joins a Barcelona squad who romped to La Liga last season and went close in the Champions League as they reached the semi-final.
