Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Bruno Fernandes could have moved to Al-Hilal this summer and that the Saudi Pro League will return for the player in 2026 or 2027.

Bruno was consistently linked all summer with a blockbuster transfer to Saudi Arabia, with Al-Hilal going all-in for the superstar in May and June.

The midfielder was also of interest to other Saudi clubs such as Al-Ittihad but in the end he stayed at Man Utd into the 2025-26 season.

Romano has revealed what really happened this summer and what he expects in the future.

What did Romano say?

“There was a concrete possibility that Bruno could have left Man Utd this summer, ” Romano told the Here We Go podcast.

“At the end of May, Al Hilal went very strong and made an important offer.

“The offers in July and August from Saudi Arabia were fake.

“The only big chance for Bruno to leave was at the beginning of the summer when Al-Hilal made a proposal.

“There was a negotiation and in the end Bruno decided to turn down the proposal.

“What I can tell you is that Saudi will keep tracking Bruno.

“This summer is over but for 2026 and 2027, they will return for Bruno and we will see if at some point they will convince him.”

He has made almost 300 appearances and scored nearly 100 goals, winning the FA Cup and EFL Cup.

He has been capped 81 times by Portugal, scoring 25 goals.
