Arsenal defender Riccardo Calafiori did not pick up a serious injury during the Italy’s Nations League win over France on the road.
The centre-back started on the left side of the back three for the Azzurri. He delivered an assured performance until his forced substitution.
Calafiori suffered a freak injury as Ousmane Dembele kicked the back of his right calf, but there is nothing to worry about, as per Fabrizio Romano.
He wrote on X: “Sources insist Riccardo Calafiori injury is not serious and it’s just a knock, nothing worrying. Arsenal also didn’t want Calafiori to take any risk and he will be assessed next week.”
Arsenal have already seen summer signing Mikel Merino suffer a shoulder fracture. The Spaniard won’t be available for two months.
They can ill-afford another setback at such an early stage. Calafiori could be rested by Italy for the upcoming game against Israel.
There is a possibility that the 22-year-old could be sent back to London such that he can be assessed before the derby on Sunday.
Arsenal face Tottenham Hotspur on the road in their next league game.
