Arsenal gearing up for a busy summer

Although Arsenal were quiet in January, it’s expected to be a busy summer at the Emirates Stadium, with Romano picking out one area of the field they are likely to concentrate on improving.

“I want to start with Arsenal because, of course, the main focus is on the titles they can win this season. But in the background there are always talks, always discussions, always things happening,” he told his YouTube channel.

“One thing I can guarantee is that Arsenal will work on midfielders in the summer. We know some of the names, some of the options they already considered in January after the injury of Mikel Merino.

“But I can tell you that one of the priorities in the summer transfer window for Arsenal – maybe a bit underrated in this moment in terms of media – could be to add a younger right-back to the squad.

“Arsenal are going to be active in the summer transfer window. Of course, this season is still absolutely underway, they are competing on every front, trying to win as many titles as possible. But the work behind the scenes has started to prepare the summer window – right-back, midfielder and eventually something up front.”

Sandro Tonali likely to leave Newcastle

Romano confirmed that Newcastle midfield lynchpin Sandro Tonali is likely to see a new challenge.

He confirmed: “I think there is a strong possibility to see Sandro Tonali moving in the summer transfer window.

“But I always say, let’s respect Newcastle, because we saw how tough it is to sign top players from Newcastle. It’s never easy.

“At the same time, I can guarantee there is a possibility to see Tonali leaving in the summer. Where to go? With Arsenal, for sure there is appreciation. But in January it was absolutely impossible, not even realistic, not even a negotiation, because Arsenal were never going to try something impossible. Newcastle were never letting him leave in January. That story was impossible.

“In the summer it could be different. Let’s see with Arsenal, but it’s not only Arsenal.

“For example, the player is being watched by Manchester United. Let’s see what’s going to happen also with Italian clubs. Juventus dream of Sandro Tonali, but of course it’s a very expensive deal, complicated for Italian clubs. And let’s see if Juventus will be in the Champions League next season or not.

“And also let’s see the price, because again it’s Newcastle dictating the timing and the price of this story. When you sit at the table with Newcastle, it’s never easy.”

Victor Osimhen on the move again? Romano explains Juventus-proof clause

Fresh from firing Galatasaray past Juventus in the Champions League, there is speculation over the future of Nigeria striker Victor Osimhen.

“In this case we have to see what’s going to happen with Galatasaray, because obviously they are dreaming in the Champions League and in the Turkish league. They are more than excited with Victor Osimhen and the player is completely focused on this mission,” Romano said.

“On the summer, I want to clarify one thing. There are many stories about Juventus. Why? Because Osimhen has always been a dream target for Juventus. They tried to sign him in recent years but it was not possible with Napoli.

“Now he’s at Galatasaray. He speaks about Juventus in a very nice way, he met Alessandro Del Piero and showed admiration. So there is a feeling, a very good feeling between Osimhen and Juventus.

“But don’t forget what happened last summer. When Galatasaray signed Osimhen from Napoli, they included a clause to make it impossible to sign him this summer for Italian clubs.

“So this summer I think we are at 99.9% no for Osimhen to join Juventus.

“Let’s see if some other club will try to tempt Galatasaray – maybe from the Premier League, maybe from other leagues. We know he has always been appreciated by Paris Saint-Germain.

“But at the moment, many rumours on Juventus, yes. The reality is there is a specific clause to avoid a transfer to Italian clubs. An Italian return was something Napoli president De Laurentiis wanted to avoid when they sold the player.

“So I don’t think it’s going to be Italy this summer. In the future, let’s see, because this feeling between Juventus and Osimhen is something to take into consideration.”

Cristiano Ronaldo’s new ambition

It was confirmed that Manchester United and Real Madrid legend Cristiano Ronaldo had decided to invest in Almeria on Thursday, and Romano dived more deeply into the story.

“Cristiano Ronaldo decided to buy 25% of Almeria in the Spanish second division – a very ambitious club with a very good project already led by a Saudi group,” he said.

“There is an important investment in Almeria and important plans. That’s why Cristiano decided to go public with that. The message is clear – he wants to be ambitious on the pitch but also off the pitch, even beyond the pitch.

“What I can add is that apart from when Cristiano decides to retire – and we hope as football fans it will be as late as possible – this is not the end. Cristiano is going to invest, according to the information I have, potentially in more clubs if there is the possibility.

“It’s not only Almeria. The idea is to consider opportunities around the world where there is value, where there is a good project, where there is the possibility to invest in something interesting.

“Today the news is Almeria. In the next months and years, I’m sure we will see Cristiano considering more investments.

“He wants to get ready for the moment when he retires. Cristiano always prepares a plan for his future. He was very careful with everything he did on the pitch, and it’s exactly the same off the pitch.

“He wants to remain in football, to build things with his vision and his mentality. Today is the start of this process. But I’m expecting much more to follow because this is just the beginning for Cristiano Ronaldo and his ambitious plans.”

Romano predicts big interest in Smit and Diomande

Romano has picked out two names that he believes fans should be looking out for ahead of the summer.

“It’s going to be a busy summer, as I mentioned Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig and also the name of Kees Smit from AZ Alkmaar,” he said.

“I keep repeating the name of Kees Smit because on this midfielder there is going to be a lot of movement from Premier League giants. Real Madrid are following the player, and not only.

“For Smit it’s going to be a crucial time very soon to understand what’s going to happen next. It was impossible in January when Newcastle tried to sign the player, but in the summer it’s going to be busy.

“Real Madrid, Spanish giants in general and Premier League top clubs are ready for the battle on one of the best midfield talents around.”
