Fabrizio Romano has dropped the latest football transfer news, with updates at Manchester United, Real Madrid, Liverpool and others leading the headlines.

Van Nistelrooy truth

Manchester United interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy has been kept in the dark over whether he will be kept on by new head coach Ruben Amorim, Romano reports.

Indeed, the Dutchman has yet to hear from the incoming boss.

“We know that from 11 November, Ruben Amorim will become the new Man Utd manager, with a contract until 2027, one year as an option, but the interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy was not lying in the pre-match press conference. He’s not had any contact with Amorim,” Romano says. “There’s no contact ongoing.

“Amorim will make a decision over his staff in the next days. It’s not guaranteed that Van Nistelrooy will stay with Man Utd as part of his staff. He’s open to staying, but on Amorim’s side, he’s not told Van Nistelrooy anything, so it’s possible they will cut ways.”

Gyokeres ‘pact’

Many clubs are interested in Viktor Gyokeres, who has found his profile skyrocket in recent days following his Champions League hat-trick for Sporting CP against Manchester City.

Arsenal, Chelsea, PSG and, of course, Man Utd are all linked with the Sweden sensation, who has already hit the 20-goal mark across all competitions for his club this season.

Amorim told the media earlier this week that Gyokeres will not leave in January, and Romano has reaffirmed that.

“Ruben Amorim also told the truth in this case. The feeling at Sporting is that Viktor Gyokeres can complete the season at the club and then decide his destination in the summer,” Romano said.

“For sure Sporting expect Gyokeres to leave in 2025 in the summer.

“Amorim is not planning to go for Gyokeres in the January transfer window. He doesn’t want to betray his relationship with the club, with the Sporting fans. Going for Gyokeres in January would be a problem for the relationship.

“Many clubs are starting to work on Gyokeres in 2025, but Man Utd in January are not planning to break the relationship.

“His release clause is €100m but the verbal situation with Sporting is that they could help Gyokeres to leave for a discount fee – less than €100m – if he waits until the end of the season.”

Liverpool’s next contract plan

Once the situation with Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold has cleared at Liverpool, the Reds will tie Ibrahima Konate down to a new deal.

After that, Romano says that their target is to prolong the stay of Luis Diaz, who might have left in the summer had the situation been different.

“There were important clubs prepared to attack the situation for Luis Diaz. Clubs were trying to make things happen,” Romano says. “The director, Richard Hughes, and the manager, Arne Slot, talked together and presented him with the new project, where it will go in the present and the future, and were able to keep Luis as part of their future plans.

“I would not be surprised to see Liverpool, after Ibou Konate, who is going to extend his contract, to negotiate a new deal with Luis Diaz. Liverpool want to make a new deal happen. Lucho could be one of the next ones – after Van Dijk, Salah and Alexander-Arnold – to get a new contract because they were fantastic in getting the player to stay at the club.”

Real Madrid’s Trent plan

Romano has outlined his understanding that Real Madrid remain eager to take Alexander-Arnold away from Liverpool, but they are not optimistic of being able to do so in January, with the Anfield club still working to keep the England star where he is.

“We know the contract of Trent Alexander-Arnold is expiring in the summer, we know Real Madrid are working on that and considering him a top priority for 2025. After the bad results, it’s a terrible moment for Real Madrid, now we see many rumours of Trent to go there in January,” he explained.

“I’m told that Real Madrid internally feel that it’s going to be mission almost impossible to sign Trent in January. He’s a name for the summer transfer window.

“Liverpool are absolutely not open to a bid. They’re happy with Trent. They’re pushing to keep Trent at the club.

“For Real Madrid, they know that signing him in January is going to be more than complicated.

“Real Madrid are looking for centre-backs and they’re looking for right-backs. They’ll be active in the market, maybe in January, maybe in the summer. We know they’re looking at Castello Lukeba, the centre-back of RB Leipzig.”
