Fabrizio Romano has provided some massive updates on the biggest transfer stories from around Europe, including the latest on Lionel Messi, plus major news at Arsenal and Manchester United.
Messi signs new Inter Miami deal
Romano believes that Lionel Messi’s new Inter Miami contract is a major turning point for the MLS side.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, he explained: “A few days ago, I told you that Leo Messi was set to extend his contract with Inter Miami, because his previous deal was due to expire in December. The club were pushing to get it done quickly. Now, it’s finally signed and sealed.
“Leo Messi has signed a new contract with Inter Miami, valid until December 2028 – that’s three more years of Messi football in MLS!
“This is massive, not just because of who Messi is, but also what he means for the Inter Miami project – on and off the pitch. Three more years of Leo Messi, confirmed.
“And don’t forget – the club are already preparing for the next steps. After the playoffs, they’ll complete the signing of Sergio Reguilon as a new left-back. The former Tottenham, Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Atletico player will join as a free agent, because Jordi Alba is retiring.
“Also important – Sergio Busquets will retire as well after the playoffs. So it’s a big turning point for Inter Miami, but the biggest headline of the day is, of course: Leo Messi stays.”
Max Dowman agrees new Arsenal deal
Arsenal’s Max Dowman is another player staying put, with the 15-year-old Arsenal wonderkid agreeing a new contract with the Premier League side.
Romano explained: “It’s a scholarship contract for now, the only type possible at his age, but the professional deal is already prepared, verbally agreed, and will be signed as soon as he’s eligible.
“Fantastic news for Arsenal fans. Doman is considered one of the best young talents in world football right now.
“Arsenal have been very busy on contract strategy lately: Ethan Nwaneri, Miles Lewis-Skelly, William Saliba – and now Max Doman joins the list.
“Director Andrea Berta is doing great work, focusing not only on signings but also on securing the club’s best young players.
“As reported by The Athletic, the agreement is done – and I can confirm that. Doman had interest from several top clubs across Europe, with much bigger financial offers on the table, but he wanted to stay.
“He already trained and even played under Mikel Arteta – and for a player born in 2009, that’s incredible.
“So, great news for Arsenal. And as I always say, when you extend a young player’s contract, it’s not just about keeping him – it’s a message. It shows trust in the project. And it will inspire many other talents in the Arsenal academy. Very, very positive move for the Gunners.”
Zirkzee unsettled at Man Utd
At Manchester United, Joshua Zirkzee could soon push to leave the club, but he’s still weighing up his options, Romano reports.
“Today, some reports in England said that he officially asked to leave United in the January window. Let me clarify this, because I spoke about Zirkzee here on the channel a few days ago – and I can confirm again: as of today, October 23, Zirkzee has not asked to leave Manchester United.
“Neither the player nor his agent have told the club: ‘Okay, let me go.’ That hasn’t happened – yet. Could it happen soon? Yes – it’s a serious possibility.
“If he keeps not playing in the next few games, if the situation doesn’t change, then yes, in January, Zirkzee could decide to leave. He wants to play, he wants to develop, especially with the World Cup coming up.
“There’s interest from West Ham in England and also from Italian clubs, where of course he did very well at Bologna before joining United.
“So keep an eye on this one. For now, nothing official, but it’s one to watch.
“Also, don’t forget that manager Ruben Amorim wants both Zirkzee and Kobbie Mainoo to stay.
“We saw what happened with Mainoo in the summer – he asked to go, but the club said: ‘No, you’re staying.’
“So we’ll see what happens in January, but right now, no formal request from Zirkzee.”
