Manchester City players and staff were left furious after being denied a penalty against Newcastle, after Phil Foden appeared to have been wiped out in the box by Fabian Schar.
Foden had been found in the box by Jeremy Doku, with the Man City star firing a shot wide of the target the in 17th minute.
As Foden shot for goal, Schar had attempted to put in a last ditch tackle on the England international.
Schar made contact with Foden’s left foot with his challenge, which came after the ball had gone.
Foden was seen holding his left foot following the tackle, with the midfielder having fallen to his left, while his Man City team-mates appealed for a penalty.
Schar’s challenge was the subject of a VAR review, but the decision was made to stick with the on-field decision.

Fans expressed their surprise that VAR opted against awarding the Man City star a penalty
Former Man City defender Micah Richards claimed on Sky Sports that Schar had potentially avoided being penalised due to Foden having already shot for goal.
‘Let’s be real, that’s a stonewall penalty on Foden,’ one fan wrote on social media.
‘“He already got the shot away” So? If a player in the middle of the park gets a pass away and then has this left on them, it’s a foul and probably a booking.’
‘More shocking VAR decisions,’ another wrote. ‘Foden wiped out and no pen. Regardless of whether he toe-poked the ball away or not before the challenge, it’s a foul.’
‘How’s that not a penalty on Foden,’ a third wrote. ‘If that’s not in the box we 100% get a free kick for it.’
Newcastle would go on to earn a dramatic 2-1 victory over Man City, a result that damages Pep Guardiola’s side’s pursuit of Premier League leaders Arsenal.
Harvey Barnes opened the scoring for the Magpies in the 63rd minute, with Ruben Dias equalising for Man City five minutes later.
Newcastle retook the lead in the 70th minute with Barnes scoring from close range.
Barnes’ winner was confirmed after a near five-minute VAR review, amid Man City claims there had been an offside in the build-up.
