Saturday’s reports claim that Fiorentina are on the verge of reaching an agreement over a new and improved contract for the highly-rated 20-year-old centre-back Pietro Comuzzo, who has been linked with moves to both Juventus and Milan this season.
Comuzzo, who has been included in the last three Italy national team squads, has enjoyed a successful breakthrough season this term, having made 40 appearances across all competitions this term, including 21 starts in Serie A. He had made just four appearances in the league in 2023-24.
As a result of his performances, the young centre-back had been linked with moves to Milan, Napoli and Juventus for the summer transfer window, both sides on the lookout for new defensive additions, and Milan specifically looking for Italian reinforcements.
Reports Fiorentina close to extending Comuzzo contract
However, according to reports from TMW, Fiorentina are now close to reaching an agreement with Comuzzo for a new and improved contract.
Comuzzo is currently tied to the Viola until the summer of 2028, which could now be extended by a further two years until the summer of 2030.
It is also expected that he will receive a significant bump in wages from the reported €500,000 per year he earns on his current deal.
What Italy head coach Spalletti thinks of Comuzzo
Speaking at his press conference ahead of Italy’s Nations League fixtures in November, which brought Comuzzo’s first senior call-up, Spalletti said: “Pietro has a great quality. He’s very focused. He has physicality. He’s a strong centre-back and is good in the build-up.
“He has a big personality despite being very young. We don’t want to suffocate the talent. A defender can have talent, not just No.9s or 10s. Those who stop or limit their opponents are talented.”
He later added: “We’ve called players who deserve it, and we must find out how strong they are. You mentioned Comuzzo and Savona. One plays for Fiorentina, who are close to the top of the table. The other one plays for Juventus. These are not experiments.
