    Fiorentina new favourites for Dzeko after strong Bologna start for 39-year-old

    Edin Dzeko is heading back to Serie A, but Fiorentina are now the favourites rather than Bologna to get the former Fenerbahce striker.

    The 39-year-old is eager to keep going after his contract with Fenerbahce was allowed to run down, so he is available as a free agent.

    He hasn’t slowed down, netting 21 goals and providing eight assists in 53 competitive games for Fenerbahce this season.

    Dzeko ready for Serie A return

    Bologna had pushed in first with a proposal for the veteran centre-forward, but Fiorentina are now making up for lost time and have surged into the lead.

    The race is still on, but the veteran is leaning towards the Viola, where he would be an understudy to Moise Kean.

    It would be a one-year contract with option for a second, but a two-year deal is also possible.

    Another important reason why Dzeko is now tempted by Fiorentina is the imminent arrival of Stefano Pioli as coach.

    There are few more well-travelled players in European football than Dzeko, who wore the jerseys of Wolfsburg, Manchester City, Roma, Inter and Fenerbahce.
