Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen has accepted his fate and is looking to leave the club in January, according to Spanish media.

The Germany international remains in the midst of an awkward situation at Barcelona. After more than a decade at the club, he was unceremoniously replaced by Joan Garcia in the summer.

The Catalans tried to force Ter Stegen out of the club, but he dug his heels in and stayed put. He was temporarily stripped of the captaincy, but an untimely injury ultimately prevented the situation from devolving into something much worse.

His injury allowed Barcelona to register Garcia at least until January, when Ter Stegen is slated to be fully fit again. However, the club have been clear with the 33-year-old that there is no way back for him.

Ter Stegen, however, wants to play. After a decade spent in the shadow of Manuel Neuer, he is finally Germany’s No.1, but head coach Julian Nagelsmann has made it clear that he needs to play if he wants to be on the plane to the 2026 World Cup.

Ter Stegen ready to leave Barcelona

According to Mundo Deportivo, Ter Stegen has finally accepted his fate and is looking to leave Barcelona in January. The report claims that ‘it’s clear’ to the shot-stopper that he needs to join a different club in order to get minutes in the tank.

A transfer has now become a ‘more than viable option’ for the German, but his potential destination remains unclear. Despite reports from Turkey, the Spanish outlet claims that Barcelona has no concrete offers on the table as things stand.

There have also been links with various Premier League clubs, but again, there has been no genuine movement for the experienced goalkeeper so far.

In the meantime, Ter Stegen is said to be ‘pushing hard’ in training in a final attempt to convince head coach Hansi Flick to change his tune. However, he seems to be fighting a losing battle.
