Liverpool boss Arne Slot is delighted with his squad, but he has not ruled out potential January signings.

The Dutchman has confirmed that the Reds are constantly scouring the market for reinforcements despite their high-flying start to the season. “We are having discussions every day, no matter if there is a window coming up or not,” he said.

“We always talk about the team; which players we like, which players are maybe not in the best place. Fortunately, we talk more about the ones that do well because almost all of them do really well.

“I said many times at the beginning of this season that I’m so, so happy with the squad we have, but that’s not to say that, if there is a chance in the market, this club has always shown that they will go for it,” Slot added.

Below, FootballTransfers looks at five players Liverpool could sign in January…

Martin Zubimendi (Real Sociedad)

Liverpool pursued Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi in the summer and felt confident about their chances of landing him. Ultimately, however, the Euro 2024 winner shocked the Reds by deciding to snub their interest and remain with his boyhood club.

Real Sociedad are in the midst of a somewhat underwhelming campaign, though the player has repeatedly dismissed suggestions of regret over his summer decision. Still, Liverpool’s interest remains and their spectacular start to life under Slot may cause him to reconsider.

The Anfield club certainly wouldn’t turn their nose up at the classy midfielder despite the fact that Ryan Gravenberch has been almost flawless as a No.6 this season.

Jeremie Frimpong (Bayer Leverkusen)

The right-back position is one Liverpool need to think long and hard about due to Trent Alexander-Arnold’s contract situation. Real Madrid are known to be keen on the homegrown star and this is a major concern.

Bayer Leverkusen star Jeremie Frimpong has been mooted as a potential replacement. The Dutchman is a very different player because, let’s face it, there are few full-backs with Alexander-Arnold’s skillset.

The Leverkusen’s star’s offensive output is nothing short of spectacular but there are questions over his defensive abilities considering that Xabi Alonso has turned him into more of a winger than defender.

Frimpong has been keen on a Premier League move for some time and has a €40 million release clause, though it is unclear whether it is active in January.

Anis Hadj-Moussa (Feyenoord)

What applies to Trent Alexander-Arnold also applies to Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian King is out of contract and Liverpool are in the market for a potential replacement.

However, it is highly unlikely that the Reds will be able to get an elite, long-term replacement in January, so they could instead be forced to go bargain-hunting if they wish to bolster their attacking options mid-season.

Feyenoord star Anis Hadj-Moussa – who did not play under Slot but was presumably signed with his approval – has recently been mooted as a target for Liverpool after his standout performance against Man City in the Champions League earlier in the season.

Jamie Gittens (Borussia Dortmund)

Another winger Liverpool are keeping tabs on is Jamie Gittens. The Borussia Dortmund youngster is enjoying a breakout campaign and his homegrown status has attracted the attention of Premier League sides.

He is more of a left-winger, though he also has experience on the right. Dortmund are reluctant to sell and have reportedly slapped a €100m price tag on his head to deter any suitors.

A January move is therefore doubtful, but Dortmund are unlikely to actually insist on his inflated valuation should formal negotiations be opened.

Omar Marmoush

Omar Marmoush (Eintracht Frankfurt)

Omar Marmoush has arguably been the biggest star of the current Bundesliga season. The Egyptian has been red-hot for Eintracht Frankfurt and this has not gone unnoticed on the red side of Liverpool.

In fact, German media has gone so far as to suggest that informal negotiations have already begun with the striker over a potential transfer. Marmoush dreams of playing in the Premier League, though he will not force through a transfer in January.

It is not a position of urgent need for Liverpool, so there could be a creative formula should talks become more concrete. A January transfer with a loan back to Frankfurt may be an acceptable solution for all parties.
