Patrick Helmes is unimpressed with Bayern Munich’s Deadline Day signing of Nicolas Jackson.

Former Germany international Patrick Helmes has criticized Bayern Munich’s Deadline Day signing of Nicolas Jackson on loan from Chelsea, saying the German champions are overpaying.

Bayern reportedly paid €16.5 million for the loan, with the deal including a €65 million purchase option that will become an obligation if Jackson reaches a certain number of appearances.

“€16.5 million for a loan signing is incredible,” Helmes, now working as a pundit, told RTL.

“On top of that, there’s another €65 million if he meets the appearance requirements. In total, we’re talking about the same amount as the Woltemade deal (from Stuttgart to Newcastle, editor’s note). It’s completely overpriced. He’s no Harry Kane.”

“Of course, he has already shown a certain quality in the Premier League. But for me, he’s only a backup for Kane – nothing more, nothing less,” Helmes added.

The pundit also said he doesn’t expect Jackson’s move to be made permanent because of the size of the purchase clause.
