Former Juventus president delivers verdict on Tudor: ‘He’s doing an excellent job’ – Football Italia

Former Juventus president Giovanni Cobolli Gigli has said that Bianconeri head coach Igor Tudor “is doing an excellent job,” arguing the Croatian is “proving his worth” in Turin.

Speaking at 1 Football Club, with quotes via IlNapolista, Gigli said that the Bianconeri’s strong start to the season was “expected, because calling it planned would be an exaggeration.”

“The results are deserved,” he continued, “the team has renewed its mentality under Tudor, who is doing an excellent job and what we’ve seen so far has been exciting.”

Gigli made reference to the 4-4 draw with Borussia Dortmund and the 4-3 win over Inter as having “kept us on the edge of our seats until the final minute, showing a determination to fight back.”

The former president, who took over at the Bianconeri in the wake of the Calciopoli scandal until 2009, added that this determination “was a characteristic that Juventus lacked last year.”

Gigli also took some time to discuss Napoli and their head coach, Antonio Conte.

The Neapolitan side lost to Manchester City last week, with captain Giovanni Di Lorenzo being sent off in the first half.

“Conte knows how to do things well,” Gigli said, “but against Manchester City, a top-level team, losing a player so early made everything more difficult.”

“I don’t think it’s fair to make a definitive judgement on Conte in the cup based solely on that match,” he continued, “Conte has shown with his daily work that he can do well.”

Finally, Gigli argued not to rule out Massimiliano Allegri’s Milan from the race for the Scudetto, who the former Juventus president said “have the advantage of not playing in Europe this season”, much in the same way that Napoli did last season.

“Right now, I see Napoli, Juventus and Milan as having the advantage for the Scudetto.”
