Former Manchester United talent Hannibal Mejbri has received a straight red card for a violent stamp on an opposition defender’s stomach.

The Tunisian progressed through the Red Devils academy after joining from Monaco under 17s in 2019 for a fee of around £8million.

He made his first appearance for United in the 2020-21 campaign having become a mainstay in the under 23s.

The midfielder never got a foothold in the Red Devils side under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer or Erik ten Hag, despite developing during loan spells at Birmingham City and Sevilla.

Hannibal, 21, made the switch to Burnley in August and has featured in most of their games this season, be it off the bench or in the starting 11.

But he produced a moment of madness during the Clarets’ home match against Stoke on New Year’s Day, treading on an opposition player’s stomach before receiving his marching orders.

Junior Tchamadeu engaged in a foot race with Hannibal for a loose ball which was running towards the corner flag in the 87th minute of the clash at Turf Moor.

The Stoke right-back got there first and the Tunisian pushed him over petulantly which was met with a shrill blow of the referee’s whistle.

But as Tchamadeu fell to the ground, Hannibal kept running and stamped on his opponent’s body while he was on the turf.

The defender let out a yelp and begun writhing around on the floor before his team-mates ran towards the referee in protest.

The official showed no hesitation in producing a red card and Hannibal was forced to trudge dejectedly off the field.

Scott Parker’s men were forced to play out the rest of the game with 10 men and were forced to settle for a 0-0 draw, which meant they could not close the gap on leaders Leeds.

Burnley lie in second, equal on points with Sheffield United, and are just three points behind Leeds in the Championship table.

The Tunisia international was labelled the ‘new s***house king’ for his antics at Elland Road earlier in the season, after he outrageously taunted his old rivals as he walked off the pitch.

In September he bravely provoked Leeds fans by holding up the score with his fingers

As he was subbed off in the 73rd minute of the game, the young midfielder made sure to rile up and taunt the large contingent of home fans.

In a video which has gone viral on social media, Mejbri can been seen going up to the home supporters and staring them down, before pointing at them and at one stage appearing to show them the 1-0 scoreline with his fingers.

His bold actions immediately earned loud jeers from both sets of fans in the stands, though for very different reasons.

Leeds fans quickly became enraged, shouting words of abuse at the star as he was ushered away by three members of security staff.

However once he had left the hostile side of the Leeds fans, he was welcomed to cheers of approval from Burnley fans who applauded and lapped up his  bold antics.

He finished off the spectacle by fisting pumping the home crowd before turning to the Leeds fans for one final dig.
