Football fans have been left stunned by the recent appearance of a former Manchester United hero.

The 36-year-old, now plying his trade in his native Mexico, joined the Red Devils in 2010 after an impressive World Cup campaign in South Africa

Despite joining a formidable attacking unit that already boasted the likes of Dimitar Berbatov, Wayne Rooney and an ageing Michael Owen, the compact poacher quickly endeared himself to the United faithful with his work rate and mind-blowing finishes.

An especially famous – and hilarious – example came in his first game for the Premier League giants when he inexplicably kicked the ball against his face yet saw it rebound into the goal.

Just two months later he netted the goal he is perhaps best remembered for at Old Trafford, a backwards header in a 2-1 away win against Stoke City

It prompted former Sky Sports commentator Andy Gray to claim ‘it’s hard to believe that any [of the league’s great headers of the ball] would have tried what he did’.

Fifteen years on and Javier Hernandez, more affectionately known as Chicharito, is still a professional, now back in Mexico where it all started.

Ahead of his Guadalajara side’s clash against Monterrey on Sunday, Hernandez was seen in conversation with legendary Spanish centre-back Sergio Ramos.

The pair played together at Real Madrid during the 2014-15 campaign, with Hernandez scoring nine goals while on loan from Man United.

The striker had fallen out of favour quickly after Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013. Under the Scot, Hernandez won two Premier League titles. In total, he scored 59 goals in 157 appearances for the Red Devils.

After leaving Old Trafford he had stints with Bayer Leverkusen, West Ham, Seville, LA Galaxy, Chivas  and Chivas Coras.

He was also prolific for his national team, scoring 52 goals in 109 appearances. Indeed, Hernandez is the highest scorer in Mexican international football history.
